We are proud to announce that THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART in New York, INSTITUTO CERVANTES NY at Amster Yard and KING JUAN CARLOS I OF SPAIN CENTER at NEW YORK UNIVERSITY have gathered and are collaborating on a full program of enriching activities.


These combine scholars, film programmers, directors and members from the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
These activities have been created on the occasion of the retropective SPAIN (UN)CENSORED hosted by THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART (MoMA) in New York during October 17- November 5, 2007.

This initiative will travel to BFI Southbank January 15-31, 2008. Stay tune for more news!

A conversation about the book made on the occasion of this exhibition edited by Filmoteca de Castilla y Leon and sponsored by The Regional Government of Castile and Leon. Participants include Fernando Lara, Director of the Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA) of the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Eduardo Lago, Director Instituto Cervantes, Sally Berger, Assistant Curator, Department of Film, The Museum of Modern Art, and Marta Sanchez, Independent curator and director of Pragda. FREE

Reception to follow featuring wines from the region of Castile and Leon. The excepcional wines Tinto Pesquera 04 and Emina 03 will be served.

EXPRESSION IN TIMES OF REPRESSION SCREENING & PANEL | October 20, 2007. 2pm-5pm |
Screening of the documentary From Salamanca to Nowhere (Spain 2002, 81 min.) by Chema de la Peña and presented by independent curator Marta Sanchez, followed by a panel of the following renowned Spanish filmmakers Basilio Martín Patino, Jaime de Armiñán, Chema de la Peña, and Fernando Lara, director of ICAA. Moderated by Richard Peña (Director, The Film Society of Lincoln Center). In Spanish with English subtitles. Simultaneous translation for the panel will be provided. FREE

About the film: 47 years after the Conversaciones de Salamanca tried to open the way for social realism in Spanish cinema, the work and legacy of those behind the declarations are examined.
