Irene Baqué is a documentary director who works in Barcelona and London. Her films tell stories of identity, social issues and resistance, always focusing on the subject of women, with an observational and cinéma vérité style. She worked for six years at The Guardian producing short documentaries on gender issues in countries such as El Salvador, Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Ethiopia, exposing local stories to an international audience.
Her latest documentary, Carmen, No Fear of Freedom (2023), won the award for Best Documentary Short at the Medina del Campo Film Week and was selected at more than 30 international festivals, including Curtas Vila do Conde and L’Alternativa, receiving multiple recognitions.
