Sebastián Peña Escobar is a Paraguayan producer, director, and writer whose work bridges cinema, literature, and cultural thought. Trained in economics and business in Paraguay, the United States, and Italy, he has, since 2002, developed and produced a wide range of magazines, books, and films. Alongside his audiovisual work, he has published essays on cultural theory and history, as well as prose, poetry, and opinion pieces.
As a producer, Peña Escobar has shepherded five feature films to major international premieres, including festivals in Berlin, Tallinn, Málaga, and Amsterdam. In 2018, he served as lead producer of The Heiresses, which won two Silver Bears at the Berlin International Film Festival and was selected as Paraguay’s official submission to both the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
His directorial debut, The Last, premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in 2023.
