Don’t miss the free screening of Academy Award® nominated film Chico & Rita at HOWL! Arts Films in Tompkins Square Park on August 8th at sundown! The screening will be preceded by a live performance by the Rebeca Vallejo Trio and there will be free churros provided by the Socarrat Paella Bar.

Oscar®-winning director Fernando Trueba and Spain’s legendary illustrator Javier Mariscal celebrate their passion for the music and culture of Cuba with an epic story of love, passion, and heartbreak. With an original soundtrack by legendary five-time Grammy®-winning composer Bebo Valdés, Chico & Rita captures a defining moment in the evolution of history and jazz, featuring the music of Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Cole Porter, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, and others.

Chico & Rita’s screening at HOWL! Arts Films in Tompkins Square Park is part of Pragda’s monthly CINEART Spain series, which tours NYC’s most dynamic boroughs while showcasing one award-winning Spanish film and visiting a landmark film house every month.

The Rebeca Vallejo Trio – Before the film, enjoy the sounds of this band with its Andalusian roots soaked in funk, bossa nova, soul, jazz and flamenco.

Rebeca Vallejo is a versatile and innovative vocalist from Madrid- Spain, known for combining her ancestral flamenco roots, her deep love and understanding of Brazilian music, with the language of jazz, creating a sound that is truly unique. Her two albums have taken her to stages in Brazil, Cuba, Germany, Belgium, Great Britain and Spain.
