Festival of New Spanish Cinema

Festival Of New Spanish Cinema Ottawa 2012Sep 26–Oct 24

In its fifth consecutive year, the 2012 Festival of New Spanish Cinema consolidates itself as the most important itinerant festival of contemporary Spanish Cinema in North America. The Festival, which will take place this year from September 2012 to March 2013, will screen some of the riskiest and most innovative Spanish films of the year.

Selected films include Paco León’s Carmina or Blow Up (Carmina o Revienta, 2012), the popular phenomenon that has been winning over audiences since its release; Madrid, 1987 (2011), a sensual and intelligent encounter by two very different generations directed by David Trueba; No Rest for the Wicked (No Habrá Paz Para los Malvados, 2011), the film that swept the Goya Awards this year directed by Enrique Urbizu; Black Bread (Pa Negre, 2010), Spain’s selection for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film directed by Agustí Villaronga; and Sleep Tight (Mientras Duermes, 2011), the latest fright by mastermind of suspense Jaume Balagueró.
