Two love stories are told in parallel: in the first, demythologising the love of innocents, a young boy falls for an older girl and becomes increasingly obsessed with winning her affections, while she toys with his. In the second, set in a nursing home for the poor, Valentin and Josefa find ways to subvert the rules of the institution and exchange mash notes.
