Júlia Mariano and Éthel Oliveira are co-directors of the Brazilian documentary Seeds: Black Women in Power (Sementes, mulheres pretas no poder, 2020), which follows Black female politicians who rose against the growth of fascism in the country after the brutal execution of Rio de Janeiro city councilor and activist Marielle Franco.

Júlia Mariano is the co-director and executive producer of the documentary Seeds: Black Women in Power (2020), Best Feature Documentary at the Montreal International Black Film Festival. She studied Documentary Direction at the International Film School of Cuba (EICTV) and works as a director and screenwriter in Rio de Janeiro. In 2012, Júlia wrote and produced Passinho Dance Off, winner of the Best Documentary award at the 2013 Rio International Film Festival, and Short Cutz, Special Jury Prize at the 2016 Rio International Film Festival. Júlia Mariano directed the short film Threatened, which received the Audience Award at the Rio Intl Short Film Festival and the Kinoforum in São Paulo, and Best Director at the Guarnicê Festival in Maranhão. On television and streaming, Júlia has also directed documentary series, including Since June (EBC) and Marcadas (CinebrasilTV).
Éthel Oliveira is the co-director, editor, and producer of Seeds: Black Women in Power (2020). She studied social sciences at Fluminense Federal University, researching the Guaraní indigenous people in Rio and Mato Grosso do Sul through the Ethnographic Film Laboratory, and spent ten years producing human rights media projects in Pernambuco. Her previous films are Third Diaspora (2011), November 20, 2011 (2011), and The End (2017).
