Nicolás Pereda was born in Mexico City in 1982 and holds a Master of Arts degree in film directing from York University in Toronto. He has made films and videos for interdisciplinary plays, operas, and dance pieces.

Pereda’s cinema has been screened at the most prestigious international film festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, Venice, Rotterdam, Viennale, and New York, where he won numerous awards. His work has been the subject of more than 30 retrospectives and screened in galleries and museums such as the Reina Sofía in Madrid, the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris, and the Guggenheim and MoMA in New York. In 2010, Pereda was awarded the Premio Orizzonti at the Venice Film Festival.
