Latinbeat: Film Society of Lincoln Center to Spain, Tenerife 2008Oct 03–Oct 17
Latin American cinema has come a long way since 1997 marked the debut of LATINBEAT, a yearly film series presented by the FILM SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTERevery September in New York City. The prestigious film program will tour Spain during 2008.
Organized by the FILM SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER in collaboration with PRAGDA, the series is presented by the FILMOTECA CANARIA as a sidebar program of the already successful IBéRTIGO, the Latinoamerican Film Festival that takes place in Las Palmas (October 3-11), and Tenerife (October 13-17). A selection of six titles that premiered in New York City includes films coming from Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia and Bolivia, which encompass today’s trends in Latinoamerican filmmaking.
FILMOTECA CANARIA was founded in 1984, and in addition to their film programs, they have their own archive with stills and film devices; they have a publishing department and library; and they organize side film events and activities.
IBéRTIGO is organized by the non-for-profit org CINE VéRTIGO. This 10 -ear-old entity is devoted to promote Film culture in the Canary Islands through their activities such as film forums, panels, workshops and various collaborations with other film entities.
