Latinbeat: Film Society of Lincoln Center to Spain, Murcia 2008May 20–May 25
Latin American cinema has come a long way since 1997 marked the debut of LATINBEAT, a yearly film series presented by the FILM SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER every September in New York City. Though many of the first-time directors from that series have moved on to produce more complex works and the cinemas in their countries have flourished, the excitement and sense of urgency characterized by those early films remains. LATINBEAT 2007 featured 23 films from 12 Latin American countries, including a strong presence from often underrepresented filmmaking countries like Paraguay, Bolivia, Uruguay and Ecuador.
Organized by the FILM SOCIETY OF LINCOLN CENTER in collaboration with PRAGDA, the prestigious film program LATINBEAT will tour Spain during 2008. A selection of six titles that premiered in New York City during 2007 will visit Spanish cinematheques in Murcia, Cantabria, Madrid and the Canary Islands. These films, coming from Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia and Bolivia, will portray trends in Latinoamerican filmmaking. All features are accompanied by new Latinamerican short films awarded in the most prestigious film festivals abroad.
