With Kobra

A portrait of the multifaceted life of Eduardo Kobra, a renowned Brazilian street artist whose journey unfolds between reality and reverie. The film chronicles Kobra’s evolution from a rebellious youth clandestinely graffiting São Paulo’s streets to a global peace activist known for painting over 50 expansive murals in New York City.

Lina Chamie’s immersive filmmaking style allows us to intimately explore Kobra’s inner world as he reflects on his artistic influences and the profound impact of New York’s vibrant artistic community on his work.

Kobra Self-Portrait celebrates Kobra’s monumental artistic achievements, including creating some of the world’s largest murals, and reveals the personal and philosophical depths that underpin his kaleidoscopic portrait.

Notes on Film

“Guinness’ records, disputes with Banksy, New York’s personality of the year, and murals spread all over the world. Coming from the outskirts of São Paulo, Brazil, after thirty years of career, Eduardo Kobra is today one of the most famous street artists.

Strong-minded and having survived tough times, Kobra expresses himself through his art. As a peace activist, he speaks out against racism and violence, and defends the environment, animals, and raises social issues.

I believe it is important to tell Kobra’s story and to tell it from his own point of view. The film is like a journey into his soul. In a sleepless night, he tells us his story. An unloving father, regrets, depression, difficulties, and discoveries, are all the brushstrokes of his self-portrait.”
