Traversing mountains, jungles, deserts, and urban landscapes entirely on foot, naturalist and explorer Nacho Dean undertook an extraordinary journey to document the environmental impacts of climate change. Along the way, he bore witness to alarming levels of plastic pollution on beaches and coastlines worldwide, turning his expedition into a powerful call for urgent environmental awareness and action.
Yet, upon completing this global trek, Dean felt his mission remained unfinished. In 2018, he launched the Nemo Expedition—an ambitious challenge to swim between the five continents, raising awareness about ocean conservation and the state of marine ecosystems. Despite not being a professional swimmer, he trained rigorously for over 2,500 kilometers, ultimately completing five intercontinental crossings over 24 months, with 90 hours of documented footage.
Dean’s remarkable expeditions have made him a global advocate for sustainability. Notably, in 2016, he became the first Spaniard to walk around the world alone and without assistance—an achievement only four individuals had accomplished before him. His work provides invaluable firsthand insights into the environmental crises facing our planet, serving as a compelling educational resource for students, researchers, and advocates of conservation.
