Polar Route is a stunning environmental documentary that follows an unprecedented journey through the fabled Northwest Passage—a legendary sea route connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans—once impassable due to thick polar ice and now opened by the alarming retreat of the Arctic glaciers. Aboard an open, cabinless boat, the crew dares to navigate one of the planet’s most remote and unforgiving environments, confronting the raw forces of nature while bearing witness to fragile ecosystems on the brink of transformation.
The film blends poetic imagery with first-hand encounters to capture both the stark beauty and the silent crisis of the Arctic. As the journey unfolds, it becomes a powerful meditation on endurance, human curiosity, and the accelerating consequences of climate change. It is both a visual odyssey and a call to action, as directors Beto Pandiani and Sylvio Rocha invite audiences to reflect on the urgency of protecting our planet’s most vulnerable frontiers before they disappear forever.

Notes on the Film
“Our goal was to produce a film about climate change in the Arctic Ocean. We towed the boat from Port Townsend in the USA to Tuktoyaktuk in Northern Canada.”
