Jesús Muñoz was born and raised in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juárez. In 2018, he co-produced and co-directed the feature-length documentary A Philosopher in the Sand (Un filósofo en la arena), which became the highest-grossing Mexican documentary in the country in 2019. In 2023, he released Guadalupe: the Making of a Nation (Tonantzin Guadalupe), serving as both director and producer. The film features extensive use of the Nahuatl language, incorporates indigenous actors, and is narrated by Mexican actress Mabel.
