Festival of New Spanish Cinema
Festival Of New Spanish Cinema Seattle 2008Nov 14–Dec 20
Spain’s complex and unique artistic filmmaking scene is finally beginning to achieve worldwide success, as proven in the past year’s Oscar awards. Though characterized by the enthralling, the daring, and the unprecedented, Spanish cinema has taken many different directions. Yet year after year, Spain offers new fearless and passionate auteurs debuting feature films, including Félix Viscarret, Albert Serra, and Rafa Cortés. FESTIVAL OF NEW CINEMA FROM SPAIN brings them together, along with established directors such as Iciar Bollain, Carles Bosch, Gracia Querejeta, José Luis Guerin and Jaime Rosales. Their new films explore diverse storytelling, genre and subjects, and with their previous features form an enriching and impressive body of work. Last but not least, it is important to stress our well regarded short film collection ShortMetraje: a yearly short film program. In a first-rate ensemble of vibrant, polemical, artful and ecclectic films, Pragda is happy to offer for the first time to American audiences a variety of styles that range from drama to comedy and experimentation. Enjoy!
