Basque Film Collection

Introducing our BASQUE FILM COLLECTION, now available for public screenings and educational sale.

“Strikes the perfect tone in narrating both meaningful and painful things without transforming them into an existentialist trope…The film provokes, raises questions, and entertains at the same time.” – Ivonne Guzmán, EL COMERCIO

Asier and I tells the story of the friendship between Aitor and Asier Aranguren from their time growing up together in the Basque Country to the present. Eventually, Aitor moved to Madrid to pursue his dream of becoming an actor, and Asier joined the terrorist group ETA. Narrated with humor, Asier and I raises universal questions: can we justify blood crimes on the name of an ideal? Can friendship transcend ideology and political extremism?

A proud homage, created by people capable of appreciating how much emotion and meaning there is among the bertsolaris, and translate it to the screen with pleasure.” – Mikel G. Gurpegui, EL DIARIO VASCO

Bertsolaritza is an ancestral, completely improvised, form of Basque poetry. Anachronistic? Not at all: the bertsolari, with their spontaneous creation and wordplay, could be an inspiration for rappers and other improv artists. The documentary follows a few young bertsolari competing at the grand finale performance of the last bertsolari championship. An audience of 14,000 people gathered to watch them vie live against each other.

“A realistic vision of how Basque diaspora is located in Elko, Nevada, USA.” – EL PAÍS

More than half a century ago, many Basques left Spain to look for a better life working as sheepherders in the American West. Amerikanuak follows immigrants such as  Juan “Parrillas” Juaristi, an 83-year old resident at a Basque boardinghouse as they reflect on the difficulties faced in forging new lives in a foreign country, their nostalgia for what was left behind, and their effort to preserve Basque culture.
