Kean University hosting free Spanish film fest in Union
Rich in cultural diversity, Kean University fosters cultural understanding in and out of its classrooms. The campus houses the Holocaust Resource Center and the Human Rights Institute, which develops and sponsors conferences, seminars, teacher training and curricula that raise awareness of human rights violations worldwide and inspire action among students, teachers and the general public.

El cine indignado desembarca en Nueva York
El Centro Rey Juan Carlos de la Universidad de Nueva York (NYU) acogió el pasado fin de semana un ciclo de cine español indignado. La responsable de estas jornadas de dos días ha sido Marta Sánchez, una licenciada en Imagen y Sonido que a finales de los años 90 emigró a EEUU “para aprender de las distribuciones independientes”. La impulsora de la iniciativa, fundadora desde 2002 de la productora Pragda, cuenta que “el objetivo era provocar el diálogo y la discusión escapando de las visiones partidistas y abordando cómo se generó la crisis en España y el estado actual del país”.

Festival Shows the Best of Spanish Cinema
In its fifth consecutive year in North America, the Festival of New Spanish Cinema has come back to Ottawa to exhibit the best of modern Spanish cinema. Over five weeks, Ottawa film enthusiasts will get to see the current trends in Spanish filmmaking, including the films A Gun in Each Hand, Six Points About Emma, Map, The Wild Ones, and Casting. The films represent the current trends of filmmaking in Spain and offer something for everybody—the diverse selection of films, with big and low budgets, features renowned directors and first-timers.

King Juan Carlos Center hosts film series on Spanish economic crisis
The King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center at NYU showed a series of films and held a panel discussion titled Spain in Crisis: The Spanish Crash and the Indignados Movement, which focused on the Spanish financial crisis of 2011 and the new social movements that have emerged as a result.

La ‘spanish crisis’ viaja a New York
¿Qué saben los estadounidenses sobre la crisis económica en España? Según Marta Sánchez, madrileña afincada en Nueva York desde 1996, “No tienen ni idea de lo que está sucediendo”. “Lo más, creen que los españoles son unos vagos y están todo el día de fiesta, como hacen ver las líneas políticas alemanas y alguno de sus comentarios o cualquier otra cosa”. Por ese motivo, para eliminar tópicos sobre nuestra sociedad y explicar lo que realmente se está viviendo, este fin de semana, en el centro Rey Juan Carlos I, de la Universidad de Nueva York, se programará España en crisis: El crash español y el Movimiento de Indignados, una muestra de documentales sobre la situación económica de nuestro país.

Spanish Artists Flock to the U.S.

El ciclo “Spain for Export” presenta en Nueva York producciones españolas
El ciclo de cine “Spain for Export” presenta desde hoy y hasta el próximo sábado en Nueva York el trabajo que algunos directores
españoles han realizado en Estados Unidos, donde decidieron establecerse en la búsqueda de nuevas oportunidades. Así, un total de catorce cortometrajes se proyectarán en un ciclo organizado por el Centro Juan Carlos I (New York University) y la productora Pragda, que pretende difundir el trabajo de estos cineastas españoles que tratan de abrirse camino en el extranjero.

“Seis Puntos Sobre Emma” es la cuota española en el RellAbilities Film Festival. Emma es una mujer bella, joven y simpatica que tambien es invidente. Sin embargo, y a pesar de su discapacidad, la joven esta decidida a convertirse en madre. Festival of New Spanish Cinema
Pragda, Gene Siskel Film Center and Instituto Cervantes Chicago announce the return of the Festival of New Spanish Cinema, bringing the best in contemporary Spanish Cinema to North America. This year marks the fifth edition of the popular traveling festival, known for shining a light on emerging Spanish filmmaking talents and trends. All screenings will be part of the EU Film Festival that takes place at the Gene Siskel Film Center.
