Bongó Itá offers a rare close-up of the Abakuá, an Afro-Cuban religious brotherhood historically hidden from outsiders. For over 200 years, the Abakuá community has symbolized resilience, surviving slavery, Spanish rule, and the Revolution, despite persistent prejudice and misunderstandings surrounding their traditions and rituals.

Press

“The result of an acute and documented research, immediately palpable in the argumentative chain that governs the plot, this film has the merit of being one of the few filmic materials devoted to this brotherhood/religion.” – Ángel Pérez, Rialta
